  • In MGDB, we learned about prion diseases. Prions are misfolded proteins that cause diseases like Mad Cow, Scrapie, and Kuru.

    What is Kuru?

Well, Kuru is a disease similar to the others i named, that some tribe or another obtained from practicing in ritual cannibalism. The prime cuts went to the adult males, the hunters if you will. The less desirable parts, like the brain, went to the women and children. Eating the brain of an individual with the disease gives you the disease.

Wow Josh! What neat stuff you are learning and what good attention you must pay in class, you say!

Well, i pretty much just tuned in to here this part and then went off on a brain tangent.

Would YOU indulge in cannabalism? Like lets say it you were visitng some tribe, and it was a great honor, and no one but you and them would ever know?

Not even curious about what people taste like?

Well fine, but for the record, I am.

Then I tuned back in and learned the symptoms of Kuru are ataxia, which is medical jargon for “uncoordinated movement”, wasting of tissues, paralysis, and eventually death.

    Hmm…you mean like ZOMBIES?

Lets think…zombies are uncoordinated…they look like they are wasting away…and they are always complaing about BRAINS! Of course! Zombies aren’t coming after our brains, they are trying to warn us they ate some bad ones. Now maybe zombie-human relations can take a step forward

    Noooo! Don’t eat THOSE brains!

Whats that you say? Zombies aren’t real? Medical Science begs to differ my friend. And if it is on PubMed, it must be true!
