First anatomy practical is complete. And the best i can say is that i *probably* didn’t fail it.
An anatomy practical exam is like no other exam I have ever taken. You
take your place in front of an anatomy station which could have a bone,
x-ray, cadaver or piece thereof, and you hold your little clipboard and
try to focus on doing well. Then the test begins.
You receive exactly one minute, no more, to correctly identy a tagged
structure in fron of you as being either left/right,
posterior/anterior, superior/inferior, dorsal/ventral, muscle nerve or
artery. Any and all of those descriptive terms must be included in the
name along with whatever the actual structure you are naming is.Oh and arteries and nerves look pretty much exactly alike.
but let’s say you can tell the difference between an artery and a
nerve. you still have to figure out which artery or nerve it is. and
depending where on the artery they tag, the name may actually change.
In one location the same artery could be a superficial branch, while a
little further up it could be a common digital branch and a little
further down just the plain old arterymuscles thankfully were easy to identify, so of course they barely put any on there.
Instead i would get a structure that seemed simple to identify…until
about 3 minutes later when i reached a different station and saw what
appeared to be the exact same structure. Meaning i had to either accept
that i was only going to get one of those two questions right, or risk
changing an answer and missing both.Guess which one i did.
about 5 times.
Good point: Charles arms were done so well (by yours truly) that they tagged structures on both of them
Bad point: do you have any idea how stupid you feel when YOU dissected
out a structure and cannot for the life of you remember what the hell
it isDont get me wrong however: While i dont think i did that well, more
studying would not have made a difference. All the structures i got, i
got within 10 seconds, and all the ones i changed answers on or know i
missed i would not have id’ed no matter how long they let me stay
there. So i can walk away satisfied that at least i did my best and if
nothing else i wont be failing out of med school.however i now have that much more work to do before the next anatomy exam

The Josh fears he may just be getting stupider by the day

Man, that sounded a lot harder than “Jeopardy” or “Trivial Pursuit”
Guh, some days I wish I could just marry a doctor and live vicariously through him. Suddenly, household chores seem pressing – fun, even. Whoa, I am visitor 4500!
Hey man!! Those junior high boys said hello to me while they were changing, perhaps they wanted me to look which I didn’t!!! I said hello and quickly walked past! Also during the summer, the jr. high school takes out the windows between the walls that separate the classrooms with the halls, thus wind can pass through and heck, there is no real privacy! Everything was an accident!!
As for Okawa…I don’t even know where that is!! Let me put it to you like this, I am 2.5 hours west of Kochi city and hmmmm 2 hours south of Matsuyama. My village has also consolidated with another city, so now the area I live is called Shimanto City. I hope that helps you!!

Oh boy do I hate anatomy practicals. Have you had a peek at Rohen’s atlas or the Umich anatomy site?
Anatomy….*sigh*
How you been Josh? *big hugs*
