  • Loss for words…

So I am in a posting mood. But have nothing to actually post about. Dilemma.

In fact, this brings up a very good point. I think I have lost the ability to talk to people. Non-medical people I mean. I used to be a fairly decent conversationalist, well informed on culture, politics, literature and the arts. I could razzle. I could dazzle. I could win friends and influence people.

Flash forward to now. I am out with friends at dinner. I am on a date. I am sitting with family. I am talking to my dog. In all these situations, my conversational topics come down to the same topics

    1. So when i was on x rotation, y happened
    2. Chicago weather is cold, but i like seasons
    3. did you see latest film blockbuster
    4. have you seen latest internet sensation
    5. lets go drink

Really, all my conversations are just permutations of those 5 topics. What happened? how can i get my sociability back?

Fellow meddites, have you experienced this same problem? what do YOU do about it? Other readers, how do you come up with ideas on what to write about? Because right now i feel like i am at a time in my life when i am literally and figuratively at a loss for words…

  • Ops! did I say “remission”, I meant something along the line of “persistance”.  Last night I was writing about my Dysthymic Disorder in remission so I was thinking about the decrease factor ahaha. Late night, no sleep, not enough coffee = brain fart.

  • Hmmmm….sounds like a bad case of Socialistic Obstructionism in total remission…. LOL. OK, I made that up. No problemo Josh. Having writer’s block doesn’t necessarily mean that you are no longer “socialable”. Maybe it’s the people ur hanging with? I find that boring people are hard to conversate with. I am addicted to humor so even the dumbest brain fart will get me talking about “fun” things. And some people aren’t as open minded as me so I find my conversations limited to certain conservative topics. Know what I’m trying to say here???? Life must be getting boring outside of your medical job???? ahahaha. I am only joking so don’t take me seriously unless I am dying physically =)

  • start using medical jargon as metaphors for philosophical topics.

  • You have a few more topics than I have …

    My conversations consist of:
    1. on x rotation, y happened
    2. digusting bodily fluids/organ stories (I’m fun!)
    3. yay, I haven’t killed anyone yet!

I like hearing about the medical trials and tribulations – ok, maybe it’s because I can relate, but they’re fun :0) Sorry, I’ve got nothing for you. (maybe going back to recipes? I liked those too)

  • All I have left are travel stories, which get quite boring to the average Oklahoman, who has never ventured outside the States. So yeah, I suck at normal conversations too.
