Fire at will
It's been quite a while since I actually sat down and did any kind of freeform stream of consciousness writing on here. Usually, I try and make sure I have some reason for posting, whether it is to share a new recipe, or a patient story, or throw up filler because if I dont post every so often, the internet will forget I exist
That said, sometimes its nice to just show up, sit down at the computer and type whatever happens to come into my head. Not for an audience, not for a reason, just for the sheer joy of seeing thoughts created out of thin air.
So what have I been doing with myself lately? Probably about the same thing everyone else has...I have been worried about my job, or more accurately my ability to get one, I have suffered disappointments and setbacks, but I have also enjoyed some very fulfilling moments.
Things like taking my dog to the dog park for the first time and watching her learn to socialize with her own species. No book to read, no ipod or cell phone like I was running errands. Just sitting down and watching my dog sniff butts and slobber for an hour.
Or going to the park to study for an exam with my brother, and turning it into an impromptu hike when we found an old bike trail that goes all the way through the gated community to the canyon.
Or just having friends over for dinner and reminiscing about old times in high school, and trying to figure out what everyone is going to be doing at our ten year reunion coming up in November
As much as I love the city and all the opportunities it offers me, sometimes I need these little jaunts to the outdoors to reground myself in the present. Sure, I may not be exactly where I wanted in luck, life, or love...but all things considered, I have it pretty darn well and its important to step outside myself every now and again to remember it.
Taken from my friend ablossoms:
we all think we are so close, but sometimes through the distance we really know very little (or nothing!) about each other.
So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Or something completely random. Ask away."
This ought to give me a couple days of filler before I have something real to post again...and for those of you who also follow my twitter, I will be posting some of the food pics of stuff I have cooked the last few days here soon. No, really

According to the med student I live with, electronic sphygmomanometers are generally worthless. What is your take on these devices?
Also, what IS a good target at-rest heart rate? I've noticed mine tends to hover around 60ish when I'm exercising regularly, and around 70 during winter, but I know some of my marathoner friends get into the 50s, so I wonder if perhaps "lower is better?"
what made you originally decide on medicine as a career?
Se me olvida que soy mas grande que tu.
Ah, yes. Question. What is your favorite California destination in regards to the outdoors?
